Happy World Breastfeeding Week

This week is all about empowerment, support, and education.  I am woman. Hear me roar! August 1st-7th marks the world wide celebration of breastfeeding. To celebrate the nursing relationship, this past weekend I had a breastfeeding mini session in Debary, Florida at Gemini Springs Park.

I have found that Gemini Springs is a lovely place to take family portraits in Florida, and is a very popular local family portrait location.

My lovely friend, Lee Anne, set up this breastfeeding event for me with some of the mamas in her local Central Florida Mama's support circle. For just $25, each family received the 15 minute photo mini session and a complementary 8x10 print.

Not only that, but 20% of all proceeds from the sessions goes to help support The Central Florida Breastfeeding Project.

Any time a Mama requests to get a photo of a nursing baby, I always say, "Yes!". Having breastfed my own child for 3 years, it's something I am very passionate about.

This sweetie was born to a long time friend of mine; someone I have known since elementary school. Nathaniel's Momma, Rene, was looking for a Central Florida newborn photographer to photograph her newborn's pictures. With a recommendation via a mutual friend of ours, I gladly took the job.

There is hardly anything more amazing and wonderful than capturing the sweet new moments of these tiny, squishy, soft, sweet, new little humans. I love photographing central florida newborns.

This Central Florida family wanted superhero newborn pictures. Who wouldn't, right? I am a self-proclaimed geek and I love all things super hero. In fact, I have a ton of child-sized super hero capes including Batman, Robin, Thor, Captain America, and Superman. I even have a child-sized Deadpool mask (thanks to my 7 year old daughter's wishes!) These costumes are free to use via photography sessions with Allison Vaughn Photography!

When Rene expressed wanting to integrate Batman into Nathaniel's newborn session, I was very excited! Personally, I think Nathaniel made a very charming Dark Knight. Don't you agree?

On May 30th 2015, I had the chance to photograph this adorable brother and sister duo.  It was a mini photography session held at the beautiful Rollins College campus, so we were a little limited on time; that and it could rain any minute. In fact, during an earlier session with a family who came in out of state, we took some of the photos in the rain!

On this day I was asking too much, you know? This Orlando child photographer expected that, within a measly 30 minutes, all the little ones would warm up to the crazy redhead with the camera in her face, explore these crazy new surroundings that involved lizards, green grass, a beautiful scenic lake, wild rabbits-- and be expected to smile.. at the camera?

Yeah, right, lady! 

It really felt that none of the kids that day, from any of my mini sessions were having it. Something strange was going on in Winter Park, Florida that last day in May. Something strange, indeed. (I completely blame it on the sporadic weather!)

However, for me, that makes every smile and every moment all the more special to me. Real, genuine, truthful emotion! I don't mind working and waiting for smiles. That's what I am here for. =)

I loved how Mason & Aubrey's family mini session turned out, and even more so that their Mom wasn't hesitant to get in front of the camera. Even though the session was supposed to be just about these two little ones, we managed to capture some great moments of the pure love a mother has for her children (and a brother and sister for each other.)

Now, who could need any more reasons to smile than this? Totally worth it.

What is a Mini Session?

Mini sessions are short on location photo sessions done at a discounted price. Each photo session is scheduled in 15 to 30 minute increments and continue on for the duration of the day. Each family can purchase as many time slots as they need in order to get the pictures they ideally want.
